The Center for Innovation and Development is located in Kilmarnock on the Northern Neck of Virginia, within 2.5 hours from Washington, D.C. and the Hampton Roads area.

The area is an ideal physical location with relatively easy access to key centers such as Hampton Roads (98 miles), Richmond (71 miles), Dahlgren (74 miles), and the Washington D.C. metropolitan area (124 miles). Access to the Washington area has been further enhanced by opening of a high-speed toll-lane from Fredericksburg to D.C. along Interstate 95 and a new rail facility near Fredericksburg. Fiber facilities run through the center of the Northern Neck.
The Northern Neck is the northern-most peninsula of Virginia's Tidewater region defined by the Rappahannock and Potomac Rivers, both of which flow into the Chesapeake Bay. The beauty and natural resources of the Northern Neck are considered by many the area's greatest assets and a draw for many tourists and retirees. These same characteristics are a draw for full-time key technical workers seeking a better quality of life for their families. The area offers a cost and quality of life unattainable elsewhere on the East Coast.
The towns of Kilmarnock, Irvington and White Stone, blend big town sophistication with small town charm. The area is unique as it is essentially an oasis within a wide-spread rural coastal area. It contains numerous restaurants, shops, a Bon Secours hospital system and other medical services, a branch of the nearby Rappahannock Community College, a vibrant community library, performing arts facilities, a state of the art YMCA fitness center, recreational facilities such as golf courses, sailing clubs, state and county parks, and many other amenities.
The lower cost of living and lack of urban congestion combined with small town charm translate to a high quality of life for the 50,000 residents who live in the area. The deep sense of community makes for an ideal place to work, live, learn and play.
